A retired IAF pilot, Namrita Chandi, who served with Gunjan Saxena in the Indian Air Force has slammed her recent biopic starring Janhvi Kapoor. She said it wrongly reflects both Gunjan's achievements and the Air Force's behavior towards female officers.
She highly criticized the portrayal of the Indian Air Force in the film. She published a letter regarding the same, “I have myself served as a helicopter pilot and I have never faced the kind of abuse and maltreatment as was portrayed in the movie. In fact, men in uniform are true gentlemen and professionals.”
Her letter states that she trained together with Gunjan, and were with “each other under the worst of circumstances.” She wrote that her letter has nothing to do with Gunjan but how the film has portrayed the IAF.
She blamed Karan Johar's Dharma Productions and its writers for showing the 'proud blue uniform' in a very poor light. She agreed that initially there were problems as there was no female toilet but at no point did she feel uncomfortable. In fact, her colleagues would guard the door as they changed.
Concerning the wrong facts presented in the movie, she wrote, “Srividya Rajan was the first lady pilot who flew to Kargil – not Gunjan. Though, I am certain that Srividya has no complaints about this credit being taken away from her.”
Her letter ended with a message for actress Janhvi Kapoor, “Lady, let me advise you, please, never again do a film of this kind if you are a proud Indian woman. Stop showcasing Indian professional women and men in such poor light.”

After the release of the film on Netflix on 12th August, the IAF has complained to the Central Board of Film Certification for its ‘undue negative portrayal’ in the film. Since then, the real Gunjan Saxena has put out several statements regarding how important IAF was in her life.
