Reliance Jio is bringing more than 100 million low-cost smartphones soon, says a report. These will be Android smartphones which will also include data packs. Business Standard newspaper quoted sources saying that Reliance Jio wants to externally manufacture more than 10 crore low-cost smartphones that would operate on Google's Android platform.
According to the report, these smartphones will come with data packs and will be launched either in December 2020 or early next year. India's richest and biggest company, Reliance, reported in July that Google would invest $ 4.5 billion (about Rs 33,102 crore) in their digital unit. Mukesh Ambani, the owner of Reliance Industries, had said that Google will create an Android operating system that will work on Reliance low-cost 4G and 5G smartphones.

Chinese phone companies have a large market share in the Indian smartphone market; 8 out of every 10 smartphones sold here are from a Chinese company. These affordable smartphones from Reliance will give a tough competition to cheap Chinese brands like Xiaomi and BBK Electronics (parent company of Realme, Oppo, and Vivo).
Reliance has previously worked on a similar strategy in 2017 by launching the JioPhone feature phone. There are now more than 100 million users of JioPhone in the country, many of which are first time Internet users.
