Here are the top 5 good things that happened in 2020

Let's just preface this article by saying 2020 was not a good year. With the raging pandemic getting worse, the lockdown, the crisis with workers stranded away from their homes during the lockdown, people being unable to feed their families, losing our favorite artists to our real frontline workers, it was a horrible year. But some good did come out of everything that has happened. Let's end this year on a positive note by recounting these good points.

1) We have now realized who the real heroes are! All essential workers, from healthcare workers, sanitation workers, police forces to airport and airline staff, and delivery guys personified the word 'hero' during this crisis. They stayed strong, working harder than ever to keep the lives of the public running as smoothly as possible. They continued working, risking their lives every day to ensure the rest of us could live and work comfortably from home.

2) People are banding together and coming together to help one another during the pandemic. Celebrities like Sonu Sood who have helped countless people, a messiah for migrants have extended a helping hand to the worst-hit classes of the pandemic. When the whole of Mumbai came together for a vegetable vendor; when Delhiites went to Baba Ka Dhaba to help a poor old man sell his products; our faith in humanity was restored.

3) The Black Lives Matter movement has become bigger than ever! After the video of the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis Police Officers went viral on social media, the whole world protested against the racial injustice. From a social media post to a global movement, people from all over the world came together in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. This unearthed other similar incidents where Black people have been targeted by the bigotry of the World and people have been asking for justice for them.

4) In August, the World Health Organization declared Africa polio-free. Nigeria is the last African country to be declared free from wild polio and more than 95% of Africa's population has now been immunized in an effort to curb Polio. Now, there are only two countries where the virus still remains a threat, they are Afghanistan and Pakistan.

5) Lockdown was the worst, staying home every day for weeks which turned into months, it showed us the importance of going out, meeting people, being social, and traveling. But staying at home benefited the environment a bit. According to the research from the University of East Anglia, the University of Exeter, and the Global Carbon Project, the Global greenhouse gas emissions fell by roughly 2.4 billion tons this year, a 7% drop from 2019 and is the largest recorded decline.
In Delhi, a week of lockdown brought down the nitrogen dioxide (NO2) levels due to a pause in transportation and electricity generation. In fact, air pollution started dropping after March 16 which led to cleaner air and better visibility.
