Falcon and the Winter Soldier: Is Falcon going to be the next Captain America? Read what Mackie has to say!
People are excited about the release of Falcon and the Winter Soldier, especially after a year where there'd been no new releases due to the pandemic. The show Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which takes place after the events of Avengers: Endgame, will see Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan playing as their respective characters are Sam Wilson aka Falcon and Bucky Barnes aka Winter Soldier.
After the release of Avengers: Endgame, there'd been many speculations about the path each remaining character will go, including theories of Falcon becoming Captain America. In Sam's final scene with Steve in Avengers: Endgame, we see that Steve has decided to remain in the 1940s to be with Peggy Carter and then, he reappears in front of Sam as an old man presenting him with his Captain America shield. Also, the teasers and images released on Disney Investor Day in December 2020 showed Sam alongside the shield. All of this has led fans to speculate that Falcon could be the next Captain America.
While promoting their show on The Jess Cagle Show, Mackie addressed this theory. When asked about it, he replied, "We don't know that yet. The show, the idea of the show is basically, you know, and at the end of Endgame, Cap decided he was going into retirement and he asked me if I would take up the shield, but at no point in time did I agree to or say that I would be Captain America."
Speaking about the Falcon and the Winter Soldier, he added, "So, the show walks the line of who is going to take up the shield and who's going to be Captain America if Steve isn't coming back."
So, the main takeaway is that nothing is fixed yet and we can find out who the next Captain America will be by watching the show, Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which will premiere on 19 March, Friday on Disney+.
