PM Modi lays the foundation for 'lighthouse project' in 6 cities including Indore
On the first day of 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi (PM Narendra Modi) laid the foundation of the Light House Project (LHP) in six states. He laid the foundation stone for these projects in Agartala (Tripura), Ranchi (Jharkhand), Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), Indore (Madhya Pradesh), Rajkot (Gujarat), and Chennai (Tamil Nadu) under Global Housing Technology Challenge-India (GHTC) initiative. Under this initiative, one thousand houses should be constructed in every city within a year.
“We will build at least two to three new houses in a day, or 90 to 100 new houses in a month under this initiative. The project will be completed by January 2022,” PM Modi said.
On this occasion, Modi said that they are using the best available technology in the lighthouse projects to speed up development and this project will fulfill the needs of urban housing. Germany's 3D construction systems are being used in Ranchi, New Zealand's steel frame technology is being used in Agartala and Canadian technology is being used in Lucknow for the construction of these houses.
PM Modi also tweeted about the same, his tweet read, "On the first day of 2021, will be taking part in a program aimed at transforming India's urban landscape. Will lay the foundation stone of Light House Projects and distribute PMAY (Urban) and ASHA-India awards."
The Lighthouse Project is an ambitious scheme by the Union Urban Ministry under which people are given sustainable housing in accordance with the local climate and ecology. The states which have been selected for this project are Tripura, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Tamil Nadu. In this project, the government will be constructing affordable strong houses that won't be affected by earthquakes using special technology from all over the world. Beam, columns, and panels are brought from the factory directly to the place of construction which will considerably reduce the duration and cost of construction.
Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri said that under the PMAY-Urban scheme, 1.09 crore houses had been sanctioned against the demand of 1.12 crore houses, 40 lakh houses handed over to beneficiaries, and 70 lakh more houses were under construction.
Due to the use of new technology, the construction work will be completed in about a year. By using prefabricated materials, this construction will be more durable and environmentally friendly. In 2017, the Ministry for Housing and Urban Affairs had asked states and union territories to select six locations for the lighthouse project under GHTC-India. Six states and union territories were then chosen who got the highest marks as per the standards.
