Tesla is coming to India: How much will it cost you?
At the start of 2021, Tesla's CEO, Elon Musk announced the introduction of Tesla cars in India via a tweet. He replied to a blog titled, "Tesla Is Preparing for a Robust Entry into India," with a tweet saying, "As promised."
In Oct 2020, he revealed his plans as a response to a Twitter post asking about the progress of Tesla's entry into India, to which he said, "Next year for sure." And they finally have. the company has registered its Indian subsidiary in Bengaluru, Karnataka, with the name ‘Tesla India Motors and Energy Pvt Ltd.’ And fans couldn't be any happier!
Tesla will be entering the Indian market through its Tesla Model 3, expected to launch in the second half of 2021. The Model 3, which came out in 2017, is the one of most affordable and best-selling electric cars from Tesla, worldwide. It comes in three variants, but India is expected to receive two variants only: Standard Range Plus and Long Range. The car can charge itself in 15 minutes, has a range of 500km, and a top speed of 162mph.
Since Tesla hasn't started their production in India, these electric cars will be priced at a premium range, around ₹55-60 lakh, according to reports. Tesla will be importing these cars to India through the Completely Built Unit (CBU) route. If you plan of getting your hands on the Tesla Model 3, the second batch of its bookings will begin from February 2021.
The US Tesla Model 3 car offers a 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 12-way power-adjustable front seats with heated function, two wireless charging pads, and a 14-speaker sound system along with autonomous driving features. The Indian model is expected to be full of many features but what those features will be, there's been no news as of now.
Tesla is expected to launch 5 cars in the year 2021-2022, Tesla Model 3 being the first. Apart from it, Tesla Model S and Tesla Model X are also expected to be launched soon at an estimated price o Rs. 1.5 Crore and Rs. 2 Crore, respectively.
