Pune Night Curfew extended for two more weeks amidst rising COVID positive cases.

The COVID-19 situation in India is taking a turn for the worst. In Pune, just last Saturday, there have been 13 registered COVID deaths. Of the 1,505 new cases detected, 739 were from Pune Municipal Corporation areas, 370 from Pimpri Chinchwad municipal corporation areas, while 396 were from Pune rural and cantonment areas.

There are over 3,800 patients in the hospitals, while almost 6,000 Corona-positive patients are in home isolation. In PMC areas, 2,104 corona patients are in hospitals while 2,470 are in home isolation.

Keeping these numbers in mind, the Pune government has decided to continue imposing the night-time restriction for two more weeks, till 14th March. So, that means, all restrictions that were announced by the government on 21st February will continue on. Restaurants and functions and other non-essential places will be closed early on.

School, Colleges, and Coaching classes will also stay closed in the city for at least two more weeks, except for the training classes of civil service aspirants. The night curfew will be imposed from 11 PM to 6 AM so hotels, restaurants, cafes, and bars will have to close up during that period. People can only go out in case of emergency during the night curfew, vegetable vendors, milkmen, newspaper vendors, etc. can continue their work during the curfew.

“We reviewed the situation and have decided to continue with the order to shut schools and colleges. All other restrictions had been in place for several months now but were not being imposed strictly due to the reduction in Covid-19 infections. Now, with the increasing positivity rate, agencies have been asked to implement them strictly,” said Rajesh Deshmukh, Pune Collector.
