Viral Kohli crosses 100 million followers on Instagram - Where does he stand with his follower counts?

Star Indian Cricketer and captain of the Indian team, Virat Kohli has hit another century, albeit not on the field. This time his century was made on his Instagram account as he reached the 100 million followers mark.

32-year-old Kohli crossed the 100 million mark on Monday becoming the first Asian celebrity to do so. He reached from 50 million followers to 100 million in just a year! Just last year, in February 2020, he had become the first Indian to get 50 million followers on Instagram.

In the Worldwide list, the highest follower count still belongs to Portuguese footballer Christiano Ronaldo with 266 million followers, followed by pop singer Ariana Grande with 224 million followers with a difference of over 40 million! The third in the list of celebrities with the most followers is retired WWE wrestler Dwayne Johnson with 220 million followers.

Argentine footballer Lionel Messi and Brazilian footballer Neymar are the next two in the list of top 5 celebrities with the most Instagram followers with 187 million followers and 147 million followers, respectively. Kohli is at number 6 in this list, making it into the Top 10.

As for the Indian celebrities, Kohli is in first place currently with 100 million followers and over 1100 posts. He is followed by Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas who went worldwide by starring in the show 'Quantico' with 60.8 million followers. The third in this list is another Bollywood actress, Shraddha Kapoor with 58 million followers.

Apart from Instagram, this Indian batsman has over 40 million followers on Twitter and his Facebook page has around 36 million likes! He is also ranked as the most valuable celebrity for the fourth consecutive year in 2020 with a brand value of $237.7 million. Of the Top 10 in this list, Kohli is the only one who isn't in the film industry and there are only 2 female celebs on this list.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) took to Twitter to congratulate the cricketer, their tweet read, "Virat Kohli – the first cricket star to hit 100 million followers on Instagram.”

Right now, Kohli is leading the Indian cricket team as they are playing against England in the ongoing Test series with scores 2-1. India's fourth test match against England in Ahmedabad will be Virat's 60th Test as a captain where he will reach MS Dhoni's record of most matches as captain of the Indian team in Tests. And if India wins their fourth Test match, they will qualify for the final of the inaugural World Test Championship.

The right-handed batsman is also only 17 runs away from 12,000 international runs scored as a captain, a feat achieved only by Australia's Ricky Ponting and South Africa's Graeme Smith.
